FAQs (frequently asked questions)

Do I need a computerised sewing machine to belong to the CTDG?
Absolutely not. The group has a wealth of experience in the application of computer programs for the purposes of producing designs for Textile related crafts and it is this skill, knowledge and enthusiasm that the CTDG wishes to share with its members. There are various ways of getting a design from screen to fabric which will depend on the craft and the desired end product. There have been a number of articles and reviews in our magazine recently concerning computerised sewing machines, but in practice most of the projects in our magazine can be reproduced without one.

What paint/graphics  program will I need to belong to the CTDG?
Almost any one available. You don't have to buy the most expensive software to participate. Members have successfully completed some of the projects in the CTDG workbooks using only the paint facilities in MicroSoft Word for windows. It depends on how ambitious and experienced you are. Obviously some of the advanced features reviewed in our magazine are only available in programs such as Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop Elements etc. But with a little advice and encouragement from the CTDG you might surprise yourself with what you can achieve with even a modest program.

What do I get out of the CTDG if I do not live in the UK?
Everything that most members in the UK get. A 12 month subscription entitles you to four issues of the magazine and use of the CTDG Forum to communicate with other CTDG members, ask questions and exchange tips and ideas. You will also get discounts on our other publications. It is true, that unless you plan to be in the UK it is not easy to attend the CTDG AGM or the CTDG members weekend, but the distances involved also mean that a lot of UK members are unable to get there either.

What is the price of membership in my local currency (e.g. US Dollars)
This depends on the exchange rate at the time the transaction clears your credit card. All of our costs are in UK pounds and as we are a non profit making organisation, we are unable to absorb the costs of fluctuating exchange rates and bank exchange charges. Therefore we publish our prices in UK pounds.
